Arrival in Astana
Arrival in Astana

I slept well on the train but Stanislav didn't sleep so well. The train was very slow as it arrived into Astana, dull grey sky welcomed us. Of course the "taxi-taxi" guys were there but they wanted to charge us 30 dollars. Stanislav used some colourful Balkan words. Vladimir a kind Russian guy intervened and ordered a Yandex taxi for us, and even though I offered to pay him he refused. I am eternally grateful!

We circled our address, or should I say "squared" a few times until the taxi driver waved us out. I called the hotel and she parroted the address. We walked around frustrated until she came down to find us.

We entered a shopping mall, took a lift up one floor, then entered a lobby, then took another lift to the 38th floor, then entered a code. Our room was called "Greece". AS it was the morning time we still had time for breakfast, breakfast to order too! I had eggs and Stanislav had porridge.

By the time it came to exploring the city it was raining. We walked to the Yurt shopping mall, bought postcards, then returned to a Georgian restaurant where we wrote out the cards. I had Georgian wine and 3 khinkali with potato and cheese.

It had started to clear up, but the weather was more autumn like as we walked to the post office. The stamps alone cost me 45 euros!

We took pictures of the Baiterek Tower and the presidential palace then returned to our hotel for a bit.

After resting up and making a cool time-lapse film, we went out for dinner. The first Georgian restaurant was full so we found another one very close. We both started with a nice glass of chacha. For the meal, I had salad and Migrelian khachapuri, Stanislav had salad, mashed potatoes and dolma. I also ordered a nice Georgian red wine and after we walked slowly home taking pictures and making movies.

Once back at the hotel, I tried drinking the Kazakh wine, but it was awful!
