Samovar
Samovar

We were down for breakfast at 08:00, it was in general pretty generic with breads and cheeses and the like, but also nice eggs, shakshuka, hash browns and tea from a Samovar.

After breakfast we explored the city, this time going to the old city. The city walls were quite impressive. Inside the old city walls as expected people were hustling for business selling tea, carpets, trinkets whatever!

We paid to enter the Shirvanshah palace for 24 euros, it was special to me as I had read the Book Ali and Nino just for the trip. The price was triple of what it should ave been for locals. Nine the less I was happy to make the connection with the book. On exiting a guy tried to sell us tea for 20 euros!

Part of the old city was entirely closed as they were making a film, police were everywhere. We continued wandering around looking at shops and taking pictures and eventually found a nice air conditioned place when I noticed my t-shirt was covered in salt crystals from sweating. I had a cold wine and Stanislav had a tea.

After the wine and tea, we returned to the hotel where I removed my salty t-shirt and showered again. That evening we made our way to a nice vegan restaurant we both ordered the lentil soup and I also had the hummus which was excellent and nice qutab a type of flatbread thing.

While we were eating two cats played and had everyone's attention. The food was good but I still didn't have the wow factor.

After the large meal and some wine, we went for a walk along the boulevard which was all lit up at night. The smell was very much of oil and reminded me of Rotterdam, Pernis. As I had my tripod I made nice pictures of the flame tours which kept changing their patterns.
