Asia Tour 2026 - Day 4/25 - 13th August - Baku, Azerbaijan - City 4/15 - Country 3/9
After breakfast we took a walk down to the promenade and had a coffee at a Georgian restaurant. Already feeling a little bit touristed out we went to the shopping mall and watched Spider-Man in Turkish, we had the choice of Человек-паук (Russian) or Örümcek Adam (Turkish) either with Azerbaijani subtitles for Hörümçək Adam! In the end it was the Turkish version. Surprisingly I uSurpassinglyndersatnd and learned quite a bit.
After the film we stopped for a drink at the hotel, of course I had some wonderful Azerbaijani Pino Grigio! We then picked up our bags and I ordered a Bolt to the airport for the next leg. I tried my best at speaking Azerbaijani but even if it was close to Turkish I coudn't really do it, we also ended up at the wrong terminal and had to walk to the correct one!
Check in for flight 3/7 was smooth enough and after we went to the restaurant area and I ordered a wonderful Aubergine dish with excellent Azerbaijani red wine.
Just at the gate, we got talking to a girl from Germany who was half Russian, it was not her first time in either Azerbaijan or in Uzbekistan. The flight was about two hours with the wonderful Azal airlines. I had salad and wine and the main course was "beef or chicken" so I just stuck to the salad! As we flew over the Caspian sea I could sea Iran clearly out my window, with the lights from Gilan shining brightly.
