The living room was full of brightly wrapped gifts as the first guests arrived, Mike and Glynnis, Neil's parents. Cyril was sent to his cage as one of the guests was a dog. Cyril, complete with the cage, was put in another room while the visiting dog started growling at a cuddly Christmas polar bear on the windowsill.

Everyone had a beer or wine except for the kids. As the rest of the visitors arrived, a bottle of bubbly was opened, and we slowly made our way to the conservatory to our assigned seats.

As a first course, I had Yorkshire pudding with melted brie, and for the main course, stuffing, roasted veggies, potatoes, peas, and Brussels sprouts with an amazing onion gravy. I would say, to date, my favourite Christmas dinner ever.

Being full, I skipped the "pudding" but accepted this lovely homemade blackberry shot. Everyone pulled crackers and read out the bad jokes. All the wines were excellent, and it helped the flow of conversation.
