Day 7 - Padua, Venice, Gorizia - 08 September 2019

Venezia

I was up right and early, so I walked towards the railway station and got myself a cappuccino. a brioche and an orange juice. I then ordered a caffè macchiato. Firstly I noticed that there was a strike, so I got up even earlier than I had planned to. I took an earlier train than I had planned to which gave me just enough time to take a couple of photos before jumping on the train for Trieste.

The train to Gorizia

On the way all heel broke loose! There was torrential rain followed by a lightening strike. I am pretty sure it was the overhead lines as the flash was so bright and the bang so loud. The train stopped and the lights went out. After about 20 minutes we started moving again.

Gorizia castle

Finally when I arrived in Gorizia I basically dropped my bags and headed to the city. I visited the castle only for another crazy storm to break out. It acted bit so I ran to the war museum. From there I went a little further to avoid more rain by sheltering in a happy pub where everyone seemed to be having a good time. I got talking to two Dutch guys there. Turns out one of them lives quite close to me in Rotterdam!

Getting drunk with the locals

I got friendly with the locals who were having a party with wines costing 2.00-2.50 each, excellent local wines at that! At a certain time I left very drunk to get a bite to eat. At some stage I fell twice going home and the next day I was very sore indeed!

In a word: #ubriaco
