We arranged to meet our driver Temo at 06:00 to drive us to Tbilisi railway station. That meant skipping that gorgeous breakfast! We drove across the mountains of Khaketi to witness as beautiful sunrise. We arrived in Tbilisi at around 08:00.

Sunrise in Georgia

We had some time, so we grabbed coffee and some sandwiches. After one bight I had to spit it out as it contained meat. I swapped with Stanislav who had a pain-au-chocolat. We made our way to platform 1, the inspector already had our names on paper! The train departed at 09:15 but it was painfully slow and very hot. We left dry Tbilisi behind to even hotter and driver Gori, and onwards through greener mountains. The train would stop from time to time and the carriages would be disconnected and we would jerk forward again as we reconnected.

The slow and hot train

Just outside of Kutaisi, everyone was really tired and started to walk around the carriage and chat. People spoke Russian, English, Polish, Georgian and Spanish! We pulled into the station at 15:00 where Stanislav bought a water melon. We waited outside until a taxi came and we were able to travel to the rented apartment. There was nobody there to meet us, so I called. Eventually a very tall man in a bright orange t-shirt arrived. He brought us to a run down communist style building, out into a courtyard with wild vines growing, and back up to the 5th floor of another building. The apartment blocks looked just like the old ones in Yugoslavia, minus the bullet holes!

After reading and resting, we explored the city. We were right in front of the Colchi's fountain, quite an impressive sight! We also parted for dinner, I had another khachapuri (imeruli) and Stanislav had Turkish food. We also found the old bazaar, again an explosion of colours and black clad grannies with no teeth. I bought some water and had a nice chat with 3 Georgian ladies.

After a short walk we returned to the apartment, I red a bit and tried a white wine, not really tasty at 40C! I ended tup throwing away that glass off wine and putting the rest in the fridge. I continued reading before listening to Willem and Jeroen with the latest news.
