Tuesday 30th August 2022
We had a pleasant breakfast at coffee fellows in Dortmund, with Dutch cheese, I love Dutch cheese! At around 10:00 we headed towards Dortmund HBf and struggled with the ticket machine. We ended up buying tickets at the counter for 9 euros for all of Germany, in fact these tickets were valid for the whole of August and we had two days to use it!

Dortmund railway station
With time to spare we boarded the first train to Düsseldorf. About halfway through the journey the inspector went bezerk as we were not wearing masks. We masked up as I had some emergency supplies and I complained in Croatian to a family sitting next to us, "Pričaš naš?" (do you speak our language?).
The Venlo train approaching in Düsseldorf
When we arrived in Düsseldorf we caught our second train to Venlo which was very crowded. We fought to get a seat this time. When we arrived in Venlo we promptly removed our masks, and made our way to the ticket hall. STAKING - STRIKE was posted all over the place. A brief moment of panic set in when I suggested we get a coffee and come up with some kind fo strategy. Apparently the NS would refund us 25 euros. The only option open to us was local buses across the entire country.

Pinot Noir from Thorn
The furst stop was Weert, so I booked us into a hotel only to discover that the dates were wrong the booking was for March 2023 ugh! I found another booking, the De Munt where I did some wine tasting. I had some Dutch wines starting with a riesling, then rosé and finally a pinot noir, the pinot noir was so good I ended up buying a bottle for home.

Me and Nikki at restaurant Rhodos
We headed up the road to restaurant Rhodos to meet Stelios and Nikki. Nikki seemed to be a little sad for some reason. The salad was excellent as was the bread and the vegetarian dish. Stanislav ordered some meat thingy and and this was all washed down with a half litre of Retsina. I was given a cake for dessert and later an Irish coffee. Stelios arrived at our table twice to check if the food was okay, it was more than okay, it was excellent!

The always excellent food
We then moved up to the Gotcha when I ordered a Brugse Zot and remembered good and bad times in Weert. Finally back at the hotel a glass of barrique and off to bed.
In a word #Weert
