Georgia Day 4

Tuesday 16th August 2022

We woke again to breakfast with spicy pickled peppers and lovely pomegranate juice. We contacted Dato who was supposed to meet us. We decided to grab a coffee before heading to the museum. During coffee I noticed a Georgian number was calling. It turned out that our hotel had cancelled our booking and I ended up booking an apartment. The museum had horses carriages that were 4,000 years old, and some gold jewels which looked very Celtic indeed. Some of the artefacts in the museum were actually 10,000 years old, when Ireland was not even inhabited. At the top of the museum was a section dedicated to Russian occupation. In those days if you spoke out you were killed. After the museum we head back to the hotel for a while.

Later we headed into the old part of the town and ordered some food. Stanislav had bean soup with maize bread, I had aubergines with walnuts, then Lazuri khachapuri which was very filling. I had white wine, the Georgian beer and finished with red wine.

On our walk to the restaurant we bumped into a guy called Omar, he had a Christian name too, Luka. We had an idea about our trip to Batumi, so we tried to find him again. We spoke to two people who wanted to charge 500 Lari to go to Batumi. A short distance away we found some people who offered us a ticket for 80 Lari's each. We ended up speaking a mixture of Georgian and Serbian while sipping Stalin's favourite wine, so I bought an entire plastic bottle which was filled through a funnel spilling some on the floor.

Back at the hotel, I cancelled the previous booking and blocked the number. We then had a few drinks at the wine bar close to our our hotel.
