It was a work day, so I set up and out-of-office and then realised I had forgotten to bring any of my many SD cards for my camera! This meant that the first action of this long weekend was to buy a brand new SD card a 64 GB card costing 48 euros.

I decided that since it had been a long time since my last visit to Weert, a disrespectful 3 years I decided to buy gifts for Serge and Amandine. I bought a slab of hand made chocolate with a Vermeer painting on it and a bottle of Greek wine from Arjan's wine shop, it turned out the chocolate and the wine were a good match.

I strolled back slowly to the station where I used the NS app to switch to first class travel. Although I was used to this route to Weert, instead of a quick change across the same platform, this was a completely different platform and a 10 minute wait. For the Eindhoven Weert leg of the journey I switched seats to see the bell tower in Weert come into view. This was something which stuck fear and awe in me in the past, a final clunk-clunk over the railway bridge and I knew i was almost in Weert.

I checked myself into the hotel, and I had a quick shower then went to Bruna where I picked up some postcards and stamps, all of which cost me 33 euros! Serge was just arriving as I suggested going to café De Gruyter and he was literally checking his phone outside! I had some Moray IPAs and we chatted about old times while waiting for Amandine to arrive when I handed over the gifts.

It had started raining heavily so we made a strategic move to Du Commerce when the rain and eased off we had had some more drinks before going next door to Rhodos to meet Nikki and wait on the rest.

Ouzos were poured as we had a table for 5 and as Edwin and Gert-Jan arrived we had classic cocktail glasses served with cold Limoncello. We were served a variety of starters like fried feta, pita bread and dips. For mains I had a wonderfully prepared salmon, a wonderful salad, home cut fries, and a wonderful Stelios pasta creation of spaghetti with olives and feta, probably not approved by my Italian friends but delicious. I also ordered my tradition of 1/2 litre of retsina wine.

It was about 22:00 when we left and Nikki gave me a mini bottle of retsina to take back to the hotel.
