On the way to the city centre
On the way to the city centre

Today was the day to explore Novi Sad. I had a breakfast of bread, ajvar, and juice, then a couple of cappuccinos at my local bar. I just walked into the city centre, following my nose.

The Synagogue
The Synagogue

As I neared the city center, I saw a synagogue, but I was more interested in the bookshop opposite, so I browsed there instead and bought my first book in Cyrillic to take home with me. I am looking forward to the read!

Just beyond the bookshop, the old city opened up before me. I had seen pictures of St. Petersburg, and this is what Novi Sad looked like to me. One of my quests was to find a postcard, but I was quite unsuccessful, even though I had found the post office.

At the the Nikola Tesla bar
At the the Nikola Tesla bar

I stopped off at the Nikola Tesla café and ordered a glass of red wine, where I created a fake but very convincing postcard online, which arrived at Stanislav's the next day. Satisfied with my creation, I finished up my glass of wine and continued exploring the area.

Pocket rakija

I found a shop called "Mesto Pod Šljivom" where I bought books, pocket rakija, and even postcards. The problem was that the post office was now closed.

Food at "Pubaj"

Never mind, I walked a short distance to find a place for a meal called "Pubaj," a relaxed, chill place, and ordered some pub food: falafel in a wrap with cheese, served with chips. Sorry, I have to mention that the best falafel are in Berlin.

The Shamrock

I finished my wine and moved to "The Shamrock," which was close by. I immediately struck up a conversation with the bar staff, who gave me a free baby Guinness. I was admiring the pub, which was decorated very nicely, probably with more of a lean towards Dublin, but from all the paraphernalia that was decorating the pub, all 32 counties got a mention.

I was about to finish up my beer when a large group of people arrived, mainly local guys but one Irishman from Limerick. I struck up a conversation, and they ended up buying me a full pint of Guinness again.

Making new friends

At this stage, I had only bought myself one drink, so I decided to buy two random people a beer and one for myself. They invited me over to their table, and we got chatting and sharing drinks again.

The Red Cow
The Red Cow

I finished up there and skipped a place called "The Red Cow," which had bad memories for me, at least the Red Cow in Dublin, that is. So I decided to go to the bar "Škripa," where I just had one white wine and headed back to the apartment, stopping along the way to buy fresh bread for 90 RSD. Back at the apartment, I had bread and ajvar as well as Serbian wine.
