Bling bling!

When we landed in Uzbekistan I started to read the signage and Uzbek was surprisingly familiar to me as a Turkish learner. I even had a conversation in Turkish with the taxi driver, not trying to get by but rather he also spoke Turkish. The night temperature was however 30°C the same as the daytime temperature in Baku, but felt less oppressive.

The apartment was full of all kinds of bling-bling furniture and fittings and look very luxurious, but it was like 3 am so we quickly went to bed, each of us with a separate bedroom!

In the morning we realised that there was no breakfast at all, so it was a combination of looking for food and monuments. While searching for the independence monument we entered into some kind of sports park, and the guys insisted on giving me a pasta dish even though in a mix of Serbian and Turkish explained "no meat/etsiz/bez mesa"To compensate they just added lost of herbs to hide the meat.

Next stop was the shopping mall, again more bling-bling mainly clothe shops and the occasional luxury car just standing in the mall. It seemed slightly surreal this place with all these beautiful shops but it looked like nobody was buying anything. We wandered through the mall and eventually found a Turkish style restaurant where the waiter spoke Turkish and Dutch. I ordered a mushroom omelette that tasted of wet dog.

Onwards to the market, which was quite the feast for my eyes, especially the bread which looked far too beautiful and ornate to actually eat. I also bought an edible food bowl. I volunteered to explore the meat part of the market but started to feel sick.

After exploring the market and buying a few bits and pieces we walked in the 40°C heat to the mosque, on the ay we stopped for a cold drink and a chat with the young guy who was working in the gift shop.

The mosque while beautiful had to prices, one for the locals and one for visitors, so we just took pictures outside.

We were very hot, so we returned to the hotel and got some food at the supermarket, and I had a separate trip to find alcohol it was quite the expedition. That night with the local drinks we listened to Asian music in our beautiful room.
