Asia Tour 2026 - Day 9/25 - 18th August - Samarkand, Uzbekistan - City 6/15 - Country 4/9

Samarkand Station We had breakfast at our hotel and packed our bags, afterwards we just waited in the garden for our taxi guy to arrive. Pomegranate While lounging around in the garden an older man arrived with a dead sheep and turned it into a family affair. First he ripped out the testicles by hand, skinning them, then he took out the liver, a lady was handed the intestines and she washed them in the sink. Very quickly cars started arriving and bags of meat were handed out

Our driver Breakfast was a relatively simple affair, some sweaty cheeses that had been lying out for too long, and some very sad looking fried eggs that looked like they had been abused, and the bread was like cardboard. At the cemetery At 12:00 our taxi driver and guide arrived and took us to a Jewish grave, we didn't enter but took a few pictures outside there was also an observatory he told us about that we also just took pictures of. 40 shades of blue We also went to a be

Russian washing machine Today was laundry day, I put on a load of washing and we went looking for a post office. I picked up some very communist looking cards and sent them to some friends and family. Post office On our way back to rescue my laundry at our accommodation, we stopped for coffee at a Turkish place, I asked for coffee with milk, so they put sugar in too! Stanislav at the "Magic City" When we arrived back at the apartment and hung up the clothes, we went to "Magi

Bling bling! When we landed in Uzbekistan I started to read the signage and Uzbek was surprisingly familiar to me as a Turkish learner. I even had a conversation in Turkish with the taxi driver, not trying to get by but rather he also spoke Turkish. The night temperature was however 30°C the same as the daytime temperature in Baku, but felt less oppressive. Uzbek money The apartment was full of all kinds of bling-bling furniture and fittings and look very luxurious, but it w
