Czechia 2026 - Day 09 - Tuesday 2nd June 2026 - Polyglot Gathering 2026 - Day 09/09 - Brno - The Netherlands

The journey

After midnight I was woken up by a German guard "Ausweis Bitte" so I gladly produced my Irish passport which he examined throughly flicking through all my stamps. He asked where I was going and I said "Schiedam" and he asked again but after repeating "Schiedam" twice Is said Amsterdam and he seemed much calmer.

The train

We were also joined by a very big German guy and our knees kept clashing. I tried desperately to sleep and as I noticed someone sleeping on then floor, I tried the same for a couple of hours. I slept badly but I loved the sound of the train at night> I gave up sleeping on the floor and returned to my seat.

Citynightjet

By the time we reached Düsseldorf we were all fully awake, I decided to walk around and went to then next carriage were all the people with cabins stared me down very smugly, I felt like shit and this did not help at all!

Arrival

Finally we passed over into The Netherlands and I was quietly happy to see us enter Arnhem and within two hours we were in Amsterdam. I had just missed my connection to Schiedam so I had to wait 30 minutes. The last hour to Schiedam was heavy and I fought away the sleep. Finally I just got a taxi from Schiedam and slept at home.
