Barbara left early as she had to be in Dublin extra early. Later, just before breakfast as we were getting dressed, Erica and Heather stopped by our room to as they were also heading for the airport. Stanislav and I caught in the pub next door to the hotel. He had porridge again, and I had avocado toast with a poached egg on top. We were mildly disappointed with the portion sizes.

Dinsosaur
After breakfast we head up towards the National Museum, which was as strange hodgepodge of curiosities from around the world with no apparent order. Things like Japanese Buddha statues stood next to Nubian statues side by side with dinosaur bones. Dolly the sheep was also one such curiosity.

Proper portions of whiskey!
After the museum, we walked for a bit in the soft rain before stumbling upon McGonagle's pub. What a gem! I ordered a "flight of whiskeys" 3 glasses of whiskey which left me buzzing for our next stop.

Scottish art
The national gallery is situated at the bottom of the hill. I was really taken aback by the beauty of the pictures in combination with the whiskey I had just drunk created an other worldly feeling. Scottish masterpieces hung alongside pictures from Jan Steen, a Dutch painter. The other gallery which was the adjacent building didn't impress me.

A phrase book
After the galleries, I visited a bookshop to pick up some Scottish themed books before we slowly made our way back to the hotel via the park. I decided to stop over in the pub next to the hotel where I got chatting to a guy from county Derry. There really were a lot of Irish in Edinburgh. I only stayed for one drink before heading back to the hotel room.

More Mac 'n Cheese
I changed into my new clothes that I bought in Rotterdam, all red or purple in colour also with red slip on shoes. We first stopped by an Indian run restaurant which didn't have much choice, so we decided to go to a pub called "The Last Drop" apparently a haunted place where hangings used to take place. I chose the Mac 'n' Cheese again, and Stanislav chose fish cakes, both of us had Scottish vegetable broth with bread. Sorry Scotland, but our soup and bread is nicer in Ireland!
Cc Blooms
After the large meal, we walked to the gay area together. We stopped by "Planet" which was pretty much dissected apart from a few staff members, an old guy with a zimmer frame and a very loud drag queen. We move to cc Blooms where they were preparing for a drag show. Stanislav left, so I stayed on and got chatting to two guys from Ireland, one of the guys politely asked me to leave. I decided it was probably goo to leave anyhow, so I having had a chat with two Austrians from Graz I left.
Lone Fiddler
It was quite windy on the walk back, and I vent got lost. Eventually I found my way back to the hotel. Within about 100 metres I heard the cheerful melody of a fiddle, and I followed the sound, leading me to a steep narrow passage with steps where a lone fiddle was perched with his legs crossed like a lone leprechaun. It was quite a magical moment and a nice way to end the weekend.
