In the morning, I decided to dump my tripod as it was broken and too heavy. I also decided that I couldn't keep the rakija (sorry, Nenad!) as I would have to bring it through Turkey, and I was right (see later post). I felt bad for leaving the broken tripod behind, so I gifted the rakija to the owners, then had a quick coffee before heading to the station.

I had a moment of silence at the station as I observed photos and flowers in front of the now cordoned-off station where people lost their lives in 2024 when the roof collapsed and killed them.

The bus was delayed 30 minutes, but when I boarded, I had a nice snooze on the way to Belgrade. My rental accommodation turned out to be a bit of a mess; I had two different people messaging me, and they changed the location all the while Booking.com was telling me all was okay. I agreed to the new arrangement and received very detailed instructions via WhatsApp. I found a taxi at the station, and they charged me 48 euros, not good at all. Even though the driver was friendly, I know that this was a rip-off!

I arrived at the location; it was full of anxious police officers and rowdy English supporters. I arrived sweating, trying out these boxes locked with codes, sweating and hoping the police would not see me as being suspicious. I eventually found the right box, which was at a different building, then walked back with the electronic key to enter the building. Then upstairs, a second locked box and a second code, and found a real key. When I opened it, I found a beautiful apartment!

I also had instructions on how to pay. I had to leave the cash in the key box, but it wouldn't fit, so I just left it in the kitchen with a photo, and they picked it up.

I showered up and headed out and headed straight for the bookshops again, and of course I bought a book!

I was getting hungry so I stumbed upon restaurant Vuk (Wolf) and ordered rakija, white cheese and a salmon soup, it was all excellent.

When I was just starting my white cheese and the wonderful bread, Alexander messaged me and as he was close I invited him to come along.

After a hearty dinner, we went to Bar Smiley (Osmeh) and had some beers, but Alexander was getting a bit sleepy. He perked up when we started speaking German to an older Swiss tourist.

We finished in Smiley and had one more drink in The Three Carrots bar when one of the locals was singing IRA rebel songs to me!
